How Insulin Hacking helped me to lose weight

Understanding insulin and how important it is for weight and fat loss has made an incredible difference in my life. I went from 38inch pant to 32inch in 3 months.

In this article, I will endeavour to briefly explain how insulin works and how to hack it to help you achieve your weight loss goals.

Our bodies have 2 sources of energy, sugar and fat. For today we will only focus on sugar as an energy source and how to limit the excess.

Our blood sugar has a band in which it can operate if it gets too high insulin is triggered if it gets too low glucose is released.

These 2 extremes are regulated by your pancreases which produces insulin and your liver which stores glucose or sugar.

For most of us, we spend way too much time in a high extreme. What makes things even more complicated is that the baseline blood-sugar level is not the same for all of us. For some of us, the baseline is much closer to the top border of this band, which means you will only need to take very little sugar or carbs to be pushed over.

As soon as your blood-sugar goes outside of this band at the top, insulin kicks in and it try to get rid of the sugar in your blood so you do not go into a coma. But it has a very specific route it takes. Almost like a train with stops, the first stop is your cells, like the ones in your muscles and organs. If they are full and cannot take all of the sugar that is offered, the next stop is your liver.

Your liver is like a warehouse that can rapidly deploy sugar if a sudden burst of energy is needed. Almost like an airdrop of energy in time of need. If your liver can also not take on any of the sugar, then it goes into long term storage. Think of it like archiving, which is stored in the form of fat. Which is much harder to use as energy than the sugar stored in your liver.

For most of us in a Western lifestyle, our cells and liver are constantly overfed and most of the energy that we consume is put in long term storage.

The good news is, we can hack this, no matter your age or gender.


Hack# 1 – Engage your muscles.

If you engage your muscles right before you eat, you use some of your muscle cells energy they will take some that sugar in less will be stored as fat.

All you need to do is squats for 20 seconds followed by wall press-ups for 20 seconds, both needs to be as fast as you can.

This works because you are using the biggest muscles in your body, they are the largest because they have the most cells.

If you are not home, just go to the bathroom, lock yourself into the cubicle and presto privacy.

Hack# 2 – Apple Cider Vinegar

It will reduce your blood sugar level by 19 to 34% without any negative effects.

The trick is to drink it on an empty stomach about 5 minutes before you eat. Only do this for dinner though, too much of a good thing turn into a bad thing.

How much you ask…

Measure 30ml of the best and purest apple cider vinegar you can get. If you can drink it like it is then good for you if you can’t dilute it with water, not too much though start with 15ml and if it is still too strong try 30ml of water until you feel you can handle it.

Hack# 3 – Sugar and Carbs

For your body, there is no difference between sugar and refined carbohydrates and potatoes in any shape or form.

For 5 days of the week, you do this:

Avoid everything that is white or can be white. This will be things like flour, sugar, rice, pasta you get the idea.

Don’t drink calories, avoid all sodas, all alcohol, no sugar or milk in your tea or coffee.

If this sounds a bit harsh, there is some things you can do. If you have to drink sweetener in you tea or coffee use Xylothol, it has almost zero effect on your blood sugar levels. If you need milk with it use 1 tablespoon of fresh cream.

If you must drink a soda 340ml of a diet soda per day is okayish. And if you had a really hard day, one glass of dry red wine will not have an effect Merlot works well….. I said glass not bowl.

Bonus Hack: Intermittent fasting

I know I know, fasting is a hack from the Hack your Fat video, but it is also a hack to reduce your blood sugar levels and forces your body to use some of the archived energy in your fat cells.

I am not talking about fasting for a day or 2 only 16 hours per day. It is called the 16/8 fast, and I am a huge fan of it. You fast for 16 hours a day and eat for 8 hours. It helped me to lose over 20Kg of fat, to put it into perspective that was around 18% of my total body weight at the time.

What makes fasting great is that you can be more lenient on what you eat and still get weight loss results, better-controlled blood sugar levels and break down leptin resistance and there is a long list of other benefits which is in my Survival Guide to intermittent fasting, which you can get for FREE by just follow the link.
